Important Information*
Foreign drivers: How to work legally in Spain
If you’re a professional driver living outside Spain — or already here and want to work with us — it’s important to understand the legal requirements to drive regularly.
Drivers from the European Union and European Economic Area
If your driving license was issued in an EU country (like France, Italy, Germany, or Portugal) or an EEA country (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), you can drive in Spain without needing to exchange your license, as long as it’s valid and you have legal residence.
In specific cases (like renewal or changes in your legal status), an exchange might be required — but generally, you’ll be able to start working right away.
Drivers from countries with bilateral agreements
Spain has agreements with many countries that allow driving licenses to be exchanged without the need for tests or with minimal requirements. Some of these countries include:
Argentina, Colombia, Morocco, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, among others.
If you’re a legal resident in Spain, you have a six-month period to complete the exchange. This process is managed through the Spanish Traffic Authority (DGT), and we can help you with it once you’re part of our team.
Drivers from countries without agreements
If you’re from a country without a bilateral agreement, you may drive temporarily in Spain with an International Driving Permit, valid for one year. During that time, you’ll need to begin the process of obtaining a Spanish license if you plan to work long-term. We can guide you through the necessary steps based on your country of origin.
*We always recommend checking the official DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) website or contacting them for the most up-to-date and specific information about your situation, as agreements can change.
What profile are we looking for?
At Transportes Luis Tortosa, we’re looking for responsible individuals with a professional attitude and experience in the transport sector. The minimum requirements to work with us are:
- A valid driving license with the appropriate categories for the vehicle type (especially C+E).
- Previous experience in national or international transport.
- All personal and professional documents in order.
- Availability to work from our bases in Spain or to travel abroad, depending on need.
If you don’t yet meet all these requirements but are in the process of obtaining them, don’t hesitate to contact us. We value attitude and commitment.
